Great Canadian Glass Gathering
Design work for a unique Canadian arts festival
Roles:
• UX/UI Designer (solo)
• Graphic design
• Digital media
Tools:
• Figma
• Wix site
• GCGG brand assets
BACKGROUND
The Great Canadian Glass Gathering is an arts festival that has been going on for close to 15 years now. Hosted in Birken, BC, it features live glassblowing, music, and camping.
I was happy to be in charge of UX, graphic design, and digital media for the 2024 event.
STRATEGY
As glassblowing and glass art is a rather niche interest, the 2024 event's strategy was to bring more of a focus to the live music aspect of the event, as an effort to increase festival attendance. Therefore, I geared my designs and marketing towards highlighting the performances.
Brand assets
First, I created a design library to remain consistent throughout my designs. I picked some warm and unique colours, pulling some from the original GCGG logo.
I chose the fun and friendly Kodchasan to use as a primary font, with Avenir LT Pro as the legible web-friendly body text.

I created several social media templates as well as one-off posts.
Here are a few examples:
Map
For this specific instance, I was instructed to break branding to give the event map more of a wild west aesthetic. Yee-haw!
Conclusion
I had a wonderful time designing for this unique event. I had to remain scrappy and design quickly given the time and resources available, but I am proud to say I was able to boost social media engagement from the previous year, resulting in boosted attendance rates from newcomers.
I have also established a design library for ease of asset and branding material usage for the many Great Canadian Glass Gathering years to come!
